Preservation & Progress Volume 29, Issue 3 7 “We would like to thank the BHP for this opportunity to interact with educators and to discuss one part of the powerful Gettysburg story that is less examined than the battle,” stated Dr. Moen. “The battle and the related civil rights struggle of the Civil War will always be the signature storyline here, of course, but there are many other dimensions to Gettysburg such as healing that are worth discussing in the days ahead.” #GETTalking Continues To Grow The #GETTalking series, an interactive, educational effort tailored to a younger demographic, continues to gain momentum. Gettysburg Foundation and GETT created a series of posters throughout the museum and visitor center to encourage a dialogue on social media about various artifacts. One example highlights General Robert E. Lee’s campaign bed and invites visitors to ponder the question, “If you could ask Lee one question the evening of July 2, what would it be?” We also collaboratively launched a MuseumMonday video series for social media that features a different artifact from the museum and take a deeper dive into its story. Friends Events and Programs Are Expanding We continue to partner with GETT, Licensed Battlefield Guides (LBG) and noted historians and scholars across the country to create educational and engaging Friends programing for you. You can find the upcoming events on page 20. The team has already started putting together some new and innovative programs for 2019. Gettysburg Revisited Gains Momentum Gettysburg Foundation has embarked on a public education effort to enhance civility and mutual respect in our democracy, drawing upon inspiring stories of conflict and conciliation that bring more than one million visitors annually here. In a message to Congress around the time he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, President Abraham Lincoln observed we Americans could “nobly save or meanly lose” our democracy. In this divisive time in our nation’s history, Gettysburg Foundation is committed to advancing a non-partisan, historically informed message that serves our nation. Gettysburg Revisited is well underway, traveling to more than 11 states with 22 events. If you’re interested in giving or hosting a Gettysburg Revisited event, we’d love to discuss options with you. You can email philanthropy@gettysburgfoundation.org or call us at 717.339.2134. Your continued preservation successes coupled with substantive educational programing will ensure Gettysburg and its expanded story remain a place of endless relevance and inspiration for present and future generations. Stay tuned for future updates and events on our website. Museum Mondays Filming with Greg Goodell and Elle Lamboy. GETT Ranger Dan Vermilya at George Weikert Farm with Great Task participants.
